Speeds & feeds
Surface speed and RPM use tool or cutting diameter (mill: cutter OD; lathe: workpiece OD at the cut). Feed depends on machine mode below (global Mill / Lathe).
About coatings
TiN — general steel/iron; ~600°C limit.
TiCN — harder than TiN; good lubricity for tapping/drilling.
TiAlN/AlTiN — high heat; dry machining, hardened/aerospace alloys.
AlCrN — stainless & superalloys.
ZrN — aluminum; reduces built-up edge.
DLC — non-ferrous, graphite, plastics; not for steel.
CVD Diamond — abrasive composites (CFRP, G10); not for ferrous metals.
Approximate starting points only. Actual speeds depend on alloy, hardness, tool geometry, machine rigidity, and coolant. Always verify against toolmaker data and your process.
Milling feed
Lathe feed
Right triangle
Enter two known values; leave the third side blank. Angle is one of the two acute corners (not the 90° corner). Lengths use your global unit setting (mm or inch). Typical use: layout and setup on either mill or lathe.
Provide exactly two independent pieces of information: e.g. A+B, A+C, B+C, A+angle, or B+angle.
Tap drill size
Approximate tap drill for ~75% thread engagement (60° V threads). Verify against tap maker tables for critical work. Use for mill tapping or lathe threading setups.
Drill point depth
Added depth from the corner to the tip for a standard drill point (through-hole clearance).
Chord & arc
Use radius + central angle or chord + radius (layout on mills or lathes; lengths follow your global unit).
Bolt circle
Hole positions on a pitch circle; angle 0° on +X. Coordinates in your global length unit (layout / DRO).
Length conversion
Convert between mm and inch. Editing one side updates the other.
